Now there is even more reason to love your cup of coffee.

Two new studies published by the Annals of Internal Medicine show great news for coffee lovers. The studies show that drinking coffee can actually reduce the risk of certain health complications, including heart disease and stroke.

The American study looked at 185,000 American coffee drinkers and showed a significant relationship between coffee drinkers and non-drinkers. During the 16-year test period drinkers were asked to report how much coffee they drank, and update the consumption and health information every five years. That study showed that those who drank two or more cups a day had an 18 percent decreased chance of death compared to non-drinkers. Follow Organo Gold on Instagram.

A European study across ten countries had similar results. They looked at the coffee habits of 520,000 people and found that those who drank coffee were less likely to die. Both studies accounted for smoking versus non-smoking, and surveyed people of multiple races, with the same results. Caffeinated versus decaf did not alter the results.

The studies did not mention any possible cause between drinking coffee and increased life expectancy. One possible reason is that those with pre-existing health conditions may avoid drinking coffee on a doctor’s orders. However, this is not the first time that studies have shown an association between drinking coffee and a longer life span, but they were two of the largest studies done on the topic.
