No company goes global right from the onset. All companies begin locally then expand to the international markets.

David McDonald’s contribution to sustainability of OSI Group

David McDonald serves as the President and Chief Operating Officer of OSI Group. He notes that an organization that has established branches in the global market cannot run a one-size-fits-all business. Many factors determine how the company operates. These factors include government regulations, people’s culture, and talent pool, and when it comes to the food industry, consumer taste plays a significant role.

OSI Group operates globally but has local management teams that take time to learn the local cultures and consumer tastes. According to David, working in large scale with efficiency together with local teams has contributed to the success of OSI Group.

OSI is headquartered in Aurora, Illinois. The company has become the leading global supplier of value-added proteins such as sausages, beef patties, sandwiches, and pizza to leading food companies such as Burger King, Subway, Yum, Papa John’s, McDonalds, Saizeriya, and Starbucks. OSI Group has more than 50 businesses established in 17 countries.

The company has been operating in China for over 20 years and has been growing together with China’s economy. It has established eight factories in the country, and two more are underway. Once the new two facilities are up and running, OSI Group will be the country’s leading poultry producer.

The company is looking forward to expanding the local-solution strategy to grow China even further. David applauds the fact that OSI Group has made the significant growth in poultry production across the Chinese market. Recently, the company launched DaOSI, a joint venture partnership with DOYOO Group, to be the company’s third poultry operation. OSI Group also launched a beef processing facility in Poland, a modern feed mill in Shandong Province, and new frozen food processing plants in India.

What made David successful is his belief that not only do consumers need to be provided with products and services in large capacities, but also products that are well developed.
