In an effort to ensure that The Family Place of Dallas, Texas raises the remaining $2.8 million needed to achieve their fundraising goal of $16.5 million, president and co-founder of Highland Capital Management, James Dondero, announced the awarding of a $1 million grant that promises to match 50 percent of the funds garnered for the Legacy Campaign. As per Dondero, the grant is a response to statements made by Police Chief David Brown and Mayor Mike Rawlings calling for the community of Dallas to come together in an effort to quell the city’s problem with family violence. After seeing the extent to which The Family Place has taken efforts to bring Chief Brown’s and Mayor Rawlings’ concepts to fruition, Dondero and The Highland Dallas Foundation decided to join The Family Place in support of its efforts. One of the major improvements that the team intends to implement is a new Central Dallas Counseling Center that will service over 2,000 people per year, significantly extending their reach, as the current facility already operates at its maximum capacity. In addition to providing emergency care for at-risk families, The Family Place’s proposed facility, to be named Ann Moody Place, will also give assistance to victims of bullying and violence among teen couples, allowing it to reach over 6,000 people annually.

Co-founding Highland Capital Management along with co-owner and CIO Mark Okada in 1993, James Dondero’s sharp business acumen has allowed the investment adviser to balloon into one of the largest credit managers in the world. Prior to becoming a pioneer of the Collateralized Loan Obligation arena, Dondero operated as CIO in a sector of Protective Life, bringing it to a billion dollar company over a four-year time span.

Graduating from the University of Virginia, he began his initial foray into the world of business as an analyst in 1984. James Dondero’s resume consists of high-yield bonds, leveraged bank loans, and emerging market debt management, providing positive yields for major corporations, such as American Express, throughout his career. Over the years, clients associated with James Dondero have received numerous awards for products directly influenced by their partnership and Highland Capital Management continues to grow.
